Young Golfers Set for the 2026 NCBA Kenya Junior Matchplay Championship at Sigona

The stage is set for the 2026 NCBA Kenya Junior Matchplay Championship, with a strong field of junior golfers set to battle for honours at Sigona Golf Club from 10th to 13th August 2026.

The championship has attracted 64 players, including golfers from Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Serbia, Austria, and India, highlighting the tournament's growing appeal and importance on the junior golf calendar.

Leading the field is Kayden Wissanji of Windsor Golf Hotel & Country Club, who enters the championship with the lowest handicap index at -1.2. He is followed by Aarush Vara of Sigona Golf Club (-0.5) and Mwathi Gicheru of Royal Nairobi Golf Club (-0.2), setting the stage for a highly competitive championship.

The field also features several players who have made their mark in junior and amateur golf, including Justin Ngeera, Savir Shah, Yuvraj Rajput, Nathan Mwangi, Alpha Ndungu, Maahir Patel, and Kevin Anyien, all of whom will be looking to make a deep run in the matchplay competition.

International representation will also add to the competitive nature of the championship, with Ewan Widor, coming off his triumph at the Limuru Junior Open, and his brother Sean Widor, representing Austria, alongside players from Uganda, Ethiopia, Serbia, and India.

Last year's championship produced a memorable final, with Tsevi Soni successfully defending his title to claim back-to-back NCBA Kenya Junior Matchplay Championship victories, while Belinda Wanjiru finished as runner-up. Neither player features in this year's entry, leaving the championship open for a new champion to emerge.

The matchplay format provides a different test from traditional Strokeplay competitions, requiring players to combine technical ability with tactical decision-making, composure, and the ability to respond to an opponent's performance on every hole.

The 2026 field includes strong representation from clubs across the country, with Sigona Golf Club, Muthaiga Golf Club, Royal Nairobi Golf Club, Vet Lab Sports Club, Limuru Country Club, Windsor Golf Hotel & Country Club, Karen Country Club, and Thika Sports Club, among others.

With a mixture of experienced junior competitors and emerging talent, the championship promises four days of high-quality matchplay as players look to progress through the draw and ultimately lift the coveted NCBA Kenya Junior Matchplay Championship title.

The 2026 NCBA Kenya Junior Matchplay Championship will be held at Sigona Golf Club from 10th to 13th August 2026.
