Having made history by being the only second Kenyan side to qualify for the group stages of the Caf Confederations Cup, Nairobi United will be hoping to boost their chances of making more history at the continental stage as they gear up for their highly anticipated clash against Azam FC of Tanzania.
The East African derby scheduled for Sunday January 25th at the Nyayo National Stadium, with kick off set at 4pm is generating alot of buzz across socials as both teams bid to get their first points on board after two rounds of group stage fixtures.
The Naibois come into the fixture having lost both their opening two fixtures to Moroccan giants Waydad Athletic Club and Maniema FC from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In their opening group encounter against Waydad Athletic Club in Casablanca, the Naibois showed alot of grit and character going down honourably 3_0 to their way superior opponents infront of a packed hostile stadium.
The Naibois earned alot of praise for their performance in Casablanca with the local media wax lyrical of their display which defied expectations with many predicting a walloping before a ball was kicked.
Having set the bar high with their performance against Waydad Athletic Club, many expected the city boys to win their second fixture against Maniema FC at home in Nyayo National Stadium.
The match however did not go as planned with the Naibois left to lick their wounds after going down to a solitary strike against the run of play with the match ending 1_0 in favour of the Congolese.
Having gained experience after playing their first two matches at the continental stage in their debut season, the Naibois will be hoping for a stronger display against their East African neighbours.
The match is a must win for Nairobi United if they are to have any chance of qualifying for the knock out stages. This will represent another milestone never seen before in the Kenyan football landscape.
