Two New Political Parties Registered
Two new political parties have provisionally been registered by the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The two parties are the Movement United for Super Action (MUSA) and the Co-operators Development Party (CDP), according to a notice issued by Registrar of Political Parties John Cox Lorionokou.
The provisional registration opens the door for the two outfits to pursue the next steps towards becoming fully registered political parties, subject to the requirements set out in the Political Parties Act.
MUSA will use blue, pink and white as its party colours, with “Future Yetu” as its slogan.
Its founding members include Ngatia Victor Waturere, Samuel Serah Masika, Opiyo Polycarp Mboya, Wagababu Jimmy, Leshore Lucinda Mpiris, Khamis Abdalla Salim and Muiruri Assumpta Wangui.
The second outfit, the Co-operators Development Party, will use olive green, navy blue and ivory white as its official colours.
CDP's slogan is “Ushirikiano-ano Maendeleo ya Nchi yetu”, with Bwanamaka Maur Abdallah, Parikh Rishi Arun, Mativo Veronica Mbithe, Kuyo Dancun Motte and Jaga Hamisa Maalim listed as its founding members.
The Registrar said particulars of the two proposed political parties had been provided on the ORPP website as required under the law.
The move comes at a time when Kenya's political landscape is increasingly taking shape ahead of the 2027 elections, with existing parties repositioning themselves and new political formations emerging to attract voters and political leaders.
The establishment of new parties is likely to intensify competition for political space as politicians and aspirants weigh their options ahead of the next electoral cycle.
However, the provisional registration does not mean that the two parties have been granted an unconditional licence to operate as fully registered political parties. The notice provides an opportunity for members of the public to raise objections to the registration.
According to Lorionkou's notice, any objections to the provisional registration must be presented to the Registrar in writing or in person within seven days from the date of publication of the notice.
The objections are to be submitted to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties at Lion Place, Fourth Floor off Waiyaki Way at Karuna Close, Nairobi.
The Political Parties Act provides the legal framework under which political parties are registered and regulated in Kenya, with the ORPP also responsible for administering the Political Parties Fund.
The emergence of MUSA and CDP adds to the number of political vehicles that could seek to field candidates or enter into political alliances as parties position themselves for the 2027 contest.
