Top clubs, Orca and Snook dominate opening meet of Kiambu Aquatics league

Orca Swim Club and Snook Swimming Club emerged overall boys’ and girls’ winners respectively at the two day Kiambu County Aquatics Association Inter-Clubs Swimming Championship, the opening meet of the 2026/2027 Kiambu Aquatics league held at Potterhouse Senior School in Runda.

Speaking after the conclusion of the event, Kiambu Aquatics Honorary Secretary Douglas Okatso congratulated the more than 300 swimmers from over 30 teams, coaches, officials and parents for contributing to a successful championship.

“The association is working to create more opportunities for swimmers to compete regularly while strengthening pathways between club, county and national-level swimming,” said Okatso adding that Kiambu Aquatics’ partnership with Kenya Aquatics, alongside other stakeholders, is aimed at developing swimming and other aquatic disciplines across the county and beyond.

After the two day event, Snook Swimming Club took the overall trophy in the girls category after collecting 20 gold, 14 silver and six bronze medals while Orca Swim Club Kenya finished first runners-up with 20 gold, 10 silver and nine bronze, Torpedo took second runners-up position with 16 gold, eight silver and 15 bronze medals.

The boys’ competition saw Orca Swim Club Kenya dominate the gold-medal count to lift the overall trophy with 40 gold, 19 silver and 10 bronze medals, as Thika Swim Academy finished first runners-up with 13 gold, six silver and two bronze, while Snook Swimming Club settled for second runners-up with 10 gold, nine silver and nine bronze medals.

After this blockbuster, attention now shifts to the Kenya Aquatics National Time Trials already scheduled for 19 – 20 September this year at the same venue, another two day event that will provide a major test for the country’s leading age-group swimmers as they seek selection to the national team that will compete at the upcoming 11th Africa Aquatics Zone 3 Swimming Championships in Kampala, Uganda.
