Nairobi, Kenya, October 30, 2026: Kenya’s leading amateur golfers teed off today, Friday, October 30, as the fifth edition of the NCBA Golf Park Open got underway at Golf Park Golf Club in Nairobi, with a competitive field battling for top honours and valuable Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) ranking points.

The three-day championship, which runs until Sunday, November 1, forms part of the KAGC Series and brings together some of the country’s top amateur golfers alongside regional competitors, all seeking to strengthen their positions in the national rankings as the 2026 season approaches its conclusion.

The tournament will be contested over 54 holes of stroke play, comprising three rounds of 18 holes, with the overall champion determined by gross scores. A cut will be applied after Saturday’s second round, with the top 33 players and ties progressing to Sunday's final round.

With a prize purse of KSh 500,000 and 200 KAGC ranking points available to the winner, the championship is expected to deliver a closely fought contest as players seek to make their mark in one of the final events of the amateur golf season.

Notable players in the field include Alex Mwangi, Josphat Rono, Elvis Muigua, John Kamaisi, Eugine Wafula, Jean D’Amour, Amos Odongo, Rafael Leming'ani and Kamoza Longwe, who will look to post consistent rounds over the three days.

Rono, Muigua and Kamaisi have featured prominently in the KAGC rankings this season and will be keen to collect more points as the battle for positions in the season standings intensifies.

Speaking ahead of the championship, Kenya Golf Union Vice Chairman Jonathan Marucha underscored the importance of the tournament in providing a competitive platform for amateur golfers while contributing to the continued development of the sport.

“The NCBA Golf Park Open is an important fixture on the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship Series calendar, providing our players with a valuable platform to test their abilities, compete against strong fields and earn ranking points. We anticipate an exciting championship, with talented golfers bringing their best game to the course over the three days.

“We are grateful to NCBA for its continued support of amateur golf in Kenya and to Golf Park Golf Club for hosting this championship. Partnerships of this nature are essential to sustaining competitive golf, nurturing emerging talent and strengthening the future of the sport in our country,” said Marucha.

The championship will also feature two female golfers, Mercy Nyanchama of Golf Park Golf Club, playing off a handicap index of 1.1, and Maryam Mwakitawa of Sigona Golf Club, playing off 2.4.

The duo will be seeking strong performances against the rest of the field, with their participation further highlighting the opportunities available for female golfers to compete at the highest level of amateur golf in the country.

Meanwhile, junior golf action will continue at the Coast on Sunday, November 1, when the NCBA U.S. Kids Golf Mombasa Fall Local Tour heads to Nyali Golf & Country Club for another round of competition.

The tournament will bring together young golfers competing across different age categories as they seek to build on their performances in the ongoing Fall Local Tour, which forms part of NCBA's broader commitment to nurturing the next generation of golfing talent.

The Mombasa Fall Local Tour provides junior golfers with a structured competitive environment in which to develop their skills, gain valuable tournament experience and build confidence on the course. Through age-based competition, the programme allows young players to test their abilities against their peers while progressively developing the technical and mental aspects of their game.

Sunday's tournament at Nyali will offer another opportunity for the juniors to strengthen their performances in the tour standings, with consistency across the different legs playing an important role in determining their overall progress during the season.

The Mombasa circuit complements the NCBA U.S. Kids Golf Nairobi Local Tour, extending competitive junior golf opportunities beyond the capital and enabling more young golfers across the country to participate in organised tournaments.
