Teams learn CECAFA Kagame Cup Group Stage Rivals
The draw for the upcoming Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) scheduled for July 24 to August 7, 2026 in Rwanda has been conducted
Reigning Sportpesa League champions Kenyas’s Gor Mahia return to the regional stage placed alongside tournament hosts APR FC of Rwanda and Ugandan giants Vipers SC, while Djibouti’s FC Garde Républicaine completes the four-team pool.
The group presents an immediate challenge for the record Kenyan champions who have experienced a lengthy title drought since their last regional triumph over rivals AFC Leopards in Khartoum 41 years ago.
In Group B, defending champions Singida Black Stars of Tanzania have been pooled directly against six-time tournament winners Simba SC, setting up an all-Tanzanian clash alongside South Sudan’s Jamus SC and Somalia’s Mogadishu City.
Meanwhile, Kenya’s second representative, Tusker FC,who were late inclusions in the tournament after Sudan’s Al Merreikh withdrew headline Group C, where the Brewers will trade blows with Sudanese powerhouses Al Hilal, Rwandan giants Rayon Sports, and Zanzibar’s KVZ SC.
According to CECAFA organizers, only the top team from each group and the single best overall runner-up across all three pools will progress directly to the semi-final stage with matches split across Kigali’s venues, including the newly modernized Amahoro National Stadium and the Kigali Pelé Stadium from July 24 to August 7.
