Ruto in Moscow for Russia-Africa Economic Forum
President William Ruto has arrived in Moscow, Russia, to attend the Third Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum, seeking to strengthen bilateral relations and attract investment to Kenya.
In a statement shared on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, Ruto said his visit would focus on deepening Kenya-Russia relations and advancing strategic partnerships in trade, investment, energy, infrastructure and technology.
“Arrived in Moscow, Russian Federation, for the Third Russia-Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum, to deepen Kenya-Russia relations and advance strategic partnerships in trade, investment, energy, infrastructure and technology,” Ruto said.
The president added that Kenya would pursue economic opportunities while strengthening cooperation in peace and security.
“Our focus is on unlocking economic opportunities, strengthening cooperation in peace and security, and advancing Kenya’s development priorities and Africa’s collective prosperity,” he said.
Kenya seeks new export markets
During the forum, Ruto is expected to push for expanded market access for Kenyan products, including tea, coffee, cut flowers, fresh produce and value-added agricultural goods.
The government is also targeting investment in agro-processing, manufacturing, energy and infrastructure as part of efforts to strengthen local industries, create jobs and increase export earnings.
According to State House, Kenya will also explore partnerships in artificial intelligence, digital innovation and technology transfer to support skills development and strengthen the country’s digital economy.
Food security on agenda
Agriculture and food security are also expected to feature in discussions, with Kenya seeking affordable agricultural inputs and partnerships that could support local production.
At the Africa-Russia Business Roundtable, Ruto is expected to market Kenya as an investment destination and a gateway to African markets, encouraging joint ventures and commercial partnerships.
The forum will also provide a platform for African leaders to discuss international peace, regional security, conflict resolution and reforms to global governance.
Ruto’s visit comes amid growing calls from Kenyan families seeking answers about relatives who travelled to Russia after reportedly being promised civilian jobs but ended up involved in the war against Ukraine.
The Moscow engagements will therefore take place against the backdrop of both Kenya’s pursuit of economic partnerships and concerns over the welfare of Kenyans caught up in the conflict.
