There are plans to attack Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino ahead of the funeral of the late Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga.
The MP, in a statement posted on social media on Friday, said he is aware of the individuals behind the alleged plot, but did not name them.
“There are plans to attack me on or before the day of Baba’s burial. I am aware of the culprits behind the scheme. It is my prayer that we give Baba the befitting send off that he deserves devoid of unwarranted violence,” wrote the outspoken lawmaker.
Meanwhile, a heavy security presence has been established at the home of the late former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga in Opoda Farm, Bondo, ahead of his burial scheduled for Sunday, October 19, 2025.
Security officers have been stationed across the vast compound to ensure order and safety as the country prepares for the final farewell of one of its most iconic leaders. The once quiet homestead has now turned into a high-security zone, with officers guarding every corner and controlling movement in and out of the premises.
By Friday, October 17, 2025, evening, the main gate leading to Opoda Farm remained closed, with entry restricted to only accredited mourners and officials. Officers could be seen checking vehicles and verifying entry passes, while others maintained patrols around the perimeter.
The heightened security follows incidents witnessed earlier in the week when large crowds flocked to the homestead, making it difficult to manage the flow of mourners and maintain safety. On Friday, October 17, 2025, the atmosphere is more controlled and organised as teams on the ground work to ensure the burial runs smoothly.
Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo on Friday, October 17, 2025, confirmed that the government, in collaboration with the ODM organising committee, has put in place comprehensive security measures for the ceremony.
“We have made the necessary arrangements with the ODM team and security officers to ensure that all security protocols are observed. We also request mourners to maintain peace and be orderly to allow a smooth process,” said PS Omollo.
The security plan involves a joint operation between the National Police Service, local administration, and the event’s organising team. Traffic officers have also been deployed to manage the heavy flow of vehicles expected to converge in Bondo for the state-sanctioned burial.
Inside Opoda Farm, tents and designated sitting areas have been set up, with officers closely coordinating with event organisers to manage crowd movement.
As the nation counts down to Sunday, October 19, 2025, burial, the mood in Bondo remains sombre but calm. Locals continue to gather near the homestead, lighting candles and sharing stories of Raila
Odinga’s legacy, a reflection of the deep emotional connection the region holds with their fallen leader.
The burial is expected to draw thousands, including dignitaries, political leaders, and citizens from across the country, all coming together to bid farewell to the man many affectionately called Baba.
