Pan African Network Group leads digital television pilot rollout in Turkana
The Pan African Network Group (PANG) is leading a Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) Pilot Project in Kakuma Ward, Turkana County, aimed at enhancing digital inclusion and broadening the coverage of Kenya's broadcasting network.
The initiative, financed by the Universal Service Fund (USF) and managed by the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA), aims at underserved areas where the growth of commercial broadcasting has been restricted due to expensive infrastructure.
County officials conducted a stakeholder engagement meeting last week, uniting representatives from the national government, education leaders, local officials, and community members to discuss the project’s implementation framework and its possible economic effects.
During the event, Tamima Ibrahim, General Manager of the Pan African Network Group (PANG), emphasized that the pilot signifies a major achievement in expanding broadcast signal reach to emerging markets.
"Funding infrastructure in marginalized areas such as Turkana provides lasting benefits for the overall broadcasting network." "Expanding our signal distribution prepares us for better content accessibility, increased advertising growth, and enhanced engagement in the digital market," stated Tamima.
She mentioned that in addition to enhancing access to free television, the initiative aims to foster local economic growth by facilitating information exchange, broadening educational opportunities, and improving connectivity.
She remarked that when operational, the DTT pilot is expected to offer residents access to more than 500 television and radio broadcasting services, greatly improving access to news, educational content, government announcements, and public service programming
