NSDCC to the Rescue of Team Kenya Commonwealth Games Female Athletes
The National Syndemic Diseases Control Council (NSDCC) in Kenya partnered with Team Kenya athletes on reproductive health as the squad prepares for the forthcoming Commonwealth Games to be hosted in Glasgow, Scotland.
The partnership is built on a simple belief: when women trust their pad, they are free to focus on their performance.
The council donated sanitary pads to support female athletes, combat period poverty, confidence and promote menstrual hygiene in sports and uninterrupted participation while doing duty for Kenya abroad during the games.
The councils Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Douglas O. Bosire said the partnership is designed to shine the spotlight on an important but often overlooked aspect of women’s sport: the role pads play in performance.
He said the sanitary pads donation is designed to help them stay focused on the games, not their period and remain focused on achieving their goals on and off the field.
“As our Kenyan athletes continues to inspire the nation through their performances on the field, the National Syndemic Diseases Control Council remains committed to supporting the players, growing the game and helping more women and girls stay locked in on their goals of achieving for Kenya while doing duty for the country in international events,“ said Bosire
The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) lauded the gesture, describing it as timely and impactful, particularly for young athletes who often face challenges related to access to sanitary products as they carry the country's flag in Glasgow.
“The donation reflects a shared commitment to addressing a barrier that continues to limit participation for many women and girls,” said NOCK Women representative Doreen Okiri.
The council also donated face masks to reduce risk of exercise-induced asthma and minimizing the risk of airborne illnesses, and enhancing overall safety during training and competitions and African designed lessos and t-shirts to be worn to display the country's heritage in Scotland.
The donation was done at the Team Kenta training camp at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani in Nairobi ahead of the Commonwealth Games scheduled for July 23rd-August 2nd, 2026.
