New political realignments have begun shape ahead of the 2027 general elections with former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko taking over as the party leader of the National Economic Development Party (NEDP). Sonko, who was the second Governor of Nairobi City County is planning a political comeback and according to the latest development, NEDP could be the political vehicle that Sonko he is preparing to sail on in the next elections. Documents seen by Kenya Online News confirm that Sonko has been confirmed as the NEDP Party Leader with the youthful University student leader Anthony Manyara as the deputy party leader. The National Economic Development Party leadership includes Sonko as the Party Leader with Naomi Chebet Nasai as the first deputy party leader and Anthony Manyara as the second deputy party leader. John Muchai Nyamu has been named the National Chairperson deputized by Zablon Rashidi Minyonga and Nancy Muchani. Benard Kiio Mulwa takes the influential Secretary General’s position with Francis Wambua taking over the National Treasurer’s post. Erick Njoroge is the deputy secretary general while Laura Mwende is the deputy national treasurer. Other party officials are the National Organizing Secretary Peterson Maina and Joseph Kiangoi as the deputy national organizing secretary. Sonko has in recent months increased his political activities analysts opining that Sonko could be lining up for a major political comeback in the next elections. Sonko has crafted a political camaraderie with Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna and former Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru in what is seen as a plot to form a formidable force to run against Governor Johnson Sakaja in 2027.
