Mbavu Destroyer Bids to Break World Record Planting 1Billion Trees
Kenyan content creator and amateur boxer Mbavu Destroyer aka Ferdinand Omondi is preparing for an ambitious challenge to plant one billion trees in 24 hours in Kenya.
The 25 year old Mbavu has linked up with environmental activist Truphena Muthoni and an Australian environmentalist for the challenge of inking their names into history books.
The trio announced the plan in a Facebook video shared on Sunday, November 1, 2026, revealing that the proposed undertaking would take place on April 22, 2027, in line with World Earth Day.
In the video, Mbavu, who has built a huge following through his energetic social media content and unconventional workout routines, introduced the Australian environmentalist, saying he had an important message to share with Kenyans.
“And I said, Eastside, I am the best. Today I am with an Australian. Let him come here and say something to you. He has a message,” Mbavu said.
The Australian environmentalist then explained that he was planning to take part in a tree-planting challenge that would seek to surpass the number of trees planted by any individual in a single day. He said the exercise would take place in Kenya and would coincide with the launch of a nationwide tree-planting day.
He also acknowledged Truphena’s involvement in the initiative, describing the planned exercise as an opportunity to bring together people around environmental conservation.
“Tomorrow, I am planning to plant more trees in a day than any human has ever planted. Right here in Kenya, because anything is possible in this country. The reason we are doing this is that it is the launch of a countrywide tree-planting day, and we are here with Truphena,” the Australian environmentalist said.
Truphena, who has gained international recognition for her tree-hugging endurance challenges, subsequently disclosed the scale of the proposed undertaking, saying the organisers were targeting one billion trees within 24 hours.
She explained that the challenge had been scheduled for April 22, 2027, to coincide with World Earth Day, adding that Kenya would be the location for the attempt.
“On April 22, 2027, it will be World Earth Day. We will plant the most trees ever planted by humanity, one billion trees in just 24 hours in Kenya. Kenya is the home of world records, especially those related to climate and environmental justice, so we are going to break this record,” Truphena Muthoni said.
Who is Mbavu Destroyer?
Mbavu Destroyer, whose real name is Ferdinand Omondi, is a Kenyan content creator, social media personality and amateur boxer who rose to prominence through viral videos showcasing his intense workout routines.
Originally from Kisumu and raised in Nairobi, he previously worked as a security guard before gaining popularity through TikTok videos in which he demonstrated his physical strength by lifting heavy construction blocks and stones without relying on conventional gym equipment.
His growing popularity eventually led to the highly publicised Vurugu Fight Night exhibition boxing match against fellow content creator Majembe, whose real name is Portifas Odipo. The bout was held at Kasarani Indoor Arena on April 4, 2026, with Mbavu losing by technical knockout in the fourth round.
On the other hand, Truphena Muthoni is a Kenyan environmentalist and climate activist popularly known as Treephena because of her unusual endurance challenges involving hugging trees for extended periods to raise awareness about forest conservation.
During the subsequent challenge in Nyeri County, Truphena hugged an indigenous tree for 72 consecutive hours, further cementing her profile as an environmental campaigner.
Her efforts have earned her national recognition, including a Head of State Commendation, as well as an appointment as an ambassador for Kenya’s 15 Billion Tree Planting Campaign.
