Sports Kenya Director and Sports Entrepreneur Edwin Kuria has pointed at gaps which have dragged Makadara area behind in development, while offering to bring in solution-based leadership in his bid to be the next Makadara Member of Parliament. Speaking during a live program on Radio Jambo, Saturday 22 November, 2025, Kuria said that for many years, Sports has been the backbone of the society in Makadara but the sector has been forgotten noting that Makadara requires a leader who understands constituency and its needs to propel it back to national limelight. Kuria, who runs Africa Sportive Talang’, an NGO which organizes activities to empower society through sports said that sports facilities in Makadara must be upgraded for sports to be propelled back as the economic driver for the society in Makadara. Speaking, Kuria noted that as a director in charge of infrastructure development as Sports Kenya, the development of the Safaricom Sports Complex in Hamza and the Sports complex at Bidii Primary school will be done in 2026 by the national government while he will focus on re developing Camp Toyoyo grounds in his first year as the area MP in 2027. “My vision is to focus on sports development because historically, sports have been the backbone of our society in Makadara. However, our facilities have been forsaken and for this reason, I have directed my energy at sports to create opportunities for our youths,” Kuria said in the interview. “I want to go to Parliament and lead from the front in transforming the lives of our youth and society from the frontline because sports have been our cash-crop historically. There have been gaps in our leadership and I have what it takes to bring the needed change to our Makadara,” Kuria added. In addition, Kuria announced that Africa Sportive Talang’ has lined up various sports activities in 2026 following the successful Gender Based Violence sports day that was held at the Uhuru complex bringing together women from Makadara in a day long sports day. Kurua revealed that Africa Sportive Talang’ will organize a women tournament, boxing, football and volleyball competitions at Camp Toyoyo in addition to a unique Grannies football for women aged above 50 years in Viwandani ward aimed at helping the women stay healthy. Kuria also noted that he plans to introduce Mixed Martial Arts in Makadara which will be gelled with Boxing that has roots in Makadara to make more opportunities for the youth in sports. Recently Kuria accompanied a delegation led by National Olympics Committee President Shadrack Maluki to a high powered sports conference in Russia which was aimed at developing sports across the world. Kuria called on the Nairobi city County Government to upgrade the dilapidated City Stadium to FIFA standards advising that the county can work with Sports Kenya to make the dream come true. He noted that Sports Kenya has a mandate to lead in the development of stadia and leave them under the management of county governments. He also thanked President William Ruto for the commitment the government has put in the developing of the Talanta Stadium that is 80m percent complete.
