NAIROBI — Lang’ata ODM delegates have unanimously endorsed South C MCA Hon. Abbas as their preferred candidate for the Lang’ata parliamentary seat ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The endorsement was made during a meeting attended by ODM delegates from across Lang’ata, grassroots strategists and the area MCA's, where Hon. Abbas received unanimous backing for the party ticket.

Abbas, the current South C MCA elected on an ODM ticket, has emerged as one of the strongest contenders for the seat currently held by Hon. Phelix Odiwour, popularly known as Jalango, who has set his sights on the Nairobi Senatorial seat.

While ODM remains a democratic party that allows interested aspirants to seek its ticket, delegates at the meeting maintained that the current political reality in Lang’ata puts Abbas ahead of other potential contenders.

They said they would welcome anyone interested in contesting for the ODM ticket, but argued that Abbas currently enjoys a significant head start over other aspirants.

According to the delegates and grassroots strategists, Abbas is not only ahead of potential rivals within ODM but is also emerging as the leading candidate among those expressing interest in succeeding Jalango.

Several opinion polls commissioned in recent months have also consistently placed Abbas ahead of other potential candidates, despite the MCA yet to officially launch his campaign for the parliamentary seat.

The delegates' endorsement is therefore being viewed as an early indication of the growing support for Abbas within the Lang’ata ODM grassroots network.

With the 2027 elections approaching, attention will now turn to whether the early momentum around Abbas will translate into the official ODM nomination and ultimately the Lang’ata parliamentary seat.
