Kenya Police Cage Simba in Dar

Former Kenyan Premier League champions Kenya Police FC netted an stoppage time goal to pip Tanzanian giants Simba SC 1-0 victory spoiling the hosts’ Simba Day celebrations at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Saturday night, August 8th, 2026.

Kenya's ex-international and the Kenyan Premier League 2022–23 Kenyan Premier League top scorer Elvis Rupia scored in the 90th minute to settle to settle the score and seal Simba's fate for a memorable victory in front of the home fans, who had gathered for the club’s annual celebrations and its 90th anniversary.

The match was the climax of Simba Day, an annual event that has become a major part of the club’s calendar.

Simba Day was established in 2009 under the leadership of then-chairman Hassan Dalali and secretary-general Mwina Kaduguda, with the event designed to bring together the club’s leadership, players, members and supporters. The inaugural edition featured a friendly against Uganda’s SC Villa, which Simba won 1-0 through Kenyan midfielder Hilary Echessa.

The tradition has since grown into a major pre-season celebration featuring the unveiling of players and other activities before the main football fixture.

Last year’s edition was postponed because of the 2024 African Nations Championship, before Simba held the 2025 edition on September 10 at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

In 2025, Kenyan champions Gor Mahia were invited to headline the football fixture, but Simba maintained their dominance on the occasion with a 2-0 victory. Mohamed Hamza opened the scoring in the first half before Steven Mukwala doubled the advantage shortly after the restart.

Police FC therefore became the latest Kenyan side to feature in the Simba Day football spectacle, but unlike Gor Mahia last year, the Law Enforcers left Dar es Salaam with victory after Rupia’s late strike.
