Students of Nyabisase Secondary School in Bobasi, Kisii County attacked theKenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) officials and police officers who were conducting examination monitoring patrols.

During the confrontation, the rioting students reportedly seized a Ceska pistol from one of the police officers and remained in possession of the firearm for nearly three hours before it was recovered.

Kisii County Police Commander Ronald Kirui confirmed the incident, saying several KNEC officials and police officers sustained injuries during the melee.

Police have since deployed anti-riot officers to the school to restore calm and contain the situation.

In July this year, a violent unrest rocked the same school as teachers and students pelted each other with stones during protests over a new principal deployed at the institution.

Caught off guard, teachers scrambled for safety before attempting to restore order. Outnumbered by the agitated students, they were eventually forced to retreat as the violence intensified, bringing learning to a standstill for hours.

The unrest soon took a destructive turn when enraged students stormed one of the school's dormitories and set it ablaze in broad daylight. Thick plumes of smoke billowed across the compound as flames rapidly engulfed the building.

Moments later, students forced open the main gate and streamed out of the compound, chanting that they would not accept the newly posted principal, who had recently been transferred from Mochorwa Secondary School.
