KANU Will Join Sifuna’s Coalition Ahead of 2027 Elections

KANU will join a political coalition associated with Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna ahead of the 2027 General Election.

The party’s spokesperson Tony Gachoka announcing the independence party’s plans to attend Sifuna’s upcoming party launch.

Gachoka’s announcement that KANU will attend the launch places the party among the formations seeking to engage with Sifuna’s emerging political vehicle.

Speaking in an interview with a local radio station on Friday, September 25, 2026, Gachoka said KANU intends to associate itself with the emerging political formation as parties and leaders opposed to President William Ruto’s administration explore possible alliances ahead of the 2027 elections.

“I want to announce here that I will be leading the KANU party to Sifuna’s upcoming party launch. We would want to associate ourselves as a coalition within a new coalition, which might include DCP,” Gachoka said.

Gachoka’s announcement that KANU will attend Sifuna’s party launch signals the party’s intention to remain engaged in the negotiations as opposition formations consider how to structure their alliances before the 2027 polls.

Gachoka said he has been explicit about his support for Sifuna and intends to lead KANU into discussions around the new political formation.

“Where we are different is that Tony Gachoka, from the beginning, is saying, ‘Look, not only am I in KANU and a candidate for governor, but I’m also in the coalition of Sifuna,’” he said.

His comments come as Sifuna and his allies prepare to unveil the next phase of their political plans, including the launch of a new party and efforts to build a wider coalition ahead of the 2027 presidential contest.
