Kamukunji MP Yusuf Hassan Defects to Democracy for the Citizens Party
Kamukunji Member of Parliament (MP) Yusuf Hassan has ditched the former ruling party Jubilee to join the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP).
The legislator was welcomed to the party on Tuesday by its leader and former Deputy President (DP), Rigathi Gachagua, at their headquarters in Lavington, Nairobi.
MP Hassan, who won his elective post under a Jubilee ticket in the 2022 General Election, said that he has opted to join a forward-thinking political ship that upholds integrity and astute leadership.
Hasan was supported by other new DCP MPs, among them Embakasi West MP Mark Muriithi Mwenje, who said Nairobi has suffered under ill leadership and DCP holds the blueprint to transform the nation.
Other Nairobi region MPs who backed Yusuf's welcoming include Kamande Mwafrika (Roysambu) and Benjamin Gathiru (Embakasi Central), who both won their posts in 2022 under a United Democratic Alliance (UDA) ticket.
"It has gotten to a point where we are tired of all this circus. Gachagua is the one to unite us all. We are now in a new beginning with a party that will take us forward," Mwenje noted.
"We are young and we have the energy to campaign for this party in Nairobi. We know this Nairobi and we will."
