Seasoned Embakasi North politician Madam Jane Muringi was among the ODM luminaries who were recorgnised with high level awards during the ODM at 20 years founders dinner held in Mombasa.
Madam Jane Wangui Muringi was the ODM Party’s first secretary-general when it was registered. Notable among the other founder members who were feted during the event include Mumbi Ngaru, former Cabinet Secretaries Franklin Bett and Henry Kosgey, and the East African Community CS, Beatrice Askul.
Unbeknown to many, however, deep in ODM's history is one Jane Wangui, who made a quiet but crucial decision which arguably helped shape Kenya's political landscape over the past two decades.
Wangui, who now serves as Nairobi County's Chief Officer for Markets and Trade, was one of the unsung figures back in 2005 who laid the legal groundwork for the formation of ODM.
Madam Jane, as she is commonly known joined hands with lawyer Mugambi Imanyara to register ODM at a time when political reforms in Kenya were garnering momentum.
It is during the political heat arising from the 2005 referendum that Madam Jane collaborated with Imanyara to register ODM as a political party.
She was honoured for her bravery in forming the party which is now the biggest political party in Kenya. During the 2022 general Elections, Madam Jane contested the Embakasi North Parliamentary seat and currently laying the ground work where she is the front runner in the 2027 Race.
The three-day ODM celebrations took place at Mama Ngina Waterfront in Mombasa and was held in honour the late Raila Odinga.
