Sports Kenya Director and Sports Entrepreneur Edwin Kuria today joined the Kenya Women’s National Hockey Team, The Blades, during an occasion where the Kenya National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOC-K) awarded the National Hockey Team with an International Olympics Committee (IOC) Scholarship worth USD 50,000. Kuria, who is lined up to become the next Member of Parliament for Makadara Constituency in Nairobi, was joined by two team members from Makadara who have benefited from his sports empowerment programs in the area. The IOC scholarship grant marks a major boost to the team’s high-performance preparations ahead of the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The scholarship will run from January through to 2028, supporting the team consistently throughout the entire Olympic cycle. The scholarship, issued under the Olympic Solidarity “LA 2028 Scholarship” Programme, is designed to support athletes with strong potential to qualify for the 2028 Olympics. Kuria has been at the fore front in supporting sports activities, especially in his native Makadara backyard. Kuria, who runs Africa Sportive Talang’, a Non-Governmental Organisatoon (NGO) which organizes and supports sportspersons and sports activities to empower society through. Kuria has identified sports as the backbone of the society in Makadara but has noted that the sector has been forgotten and that there is need to get a leader who will propel sports back to the top and offer opportunities for the youth in the area to develop their sports careers. Recently Kuria accompanied a delegation led by National Olympics Committee President Shadrack Maluki to a high-powered sports conference in Russia which was aimed at developing sports across the world. “I came to support our two girls and their national team mates and to tell them that their hard work and resilience is recognized. My vision is to focus on sports development because historically, sports have been the backbone of our society in Makadara. However, our facilities have been forsaken and for this reason, I have directed my energy at sports to create opportunities for our youths,” Kuria said. Kuria, the founder and director of Africa Sportive Talang’ has revealed that various sports activities are lined up in Makadara in 2026 following the successful Gender Based Violence sports day that was held at the Uhuru complex bringing together women from Makadara in a day long sports day.
