Green Congress party issues tough statement on fuel prices hike
The Green Congress of Kenya (GCK) Party Leader Hilary Alila has today issued a hard hitting statement following the sharp rise in fuel prices that was announced by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority yesterday pushing up fuel prices in Kenya by 40 shillings.
In a tough statement, Alila noted that while the citizenry of Kenya does not celebrate paying more at the fuel pump, a good leadership is anchored in telling the truth to the people even when the truth is uncomfortable.
Alila insisted that the Green Congress Kenya is in support of the government's position on fuel price adjustments citing that the party believes in finding long-term solutions over short-term remedies that gives pseudo comfort to the people.
"For too long, fuel subsidies drained billions from our national treasury, money that should be building hospitals in Turkana, roads in Kisumu and schools in Meru. That era of financial irresponsibility must end," Alila said.
"Green Congress Kenya remains the voice of reason, the voice of the people and the voice of a better Kenya. What we demand in return is transparent use of the saved subsidy funds and a clear government roadmap which will cushion the citizens," he said.
Alila called for the immediate relief for low-income earners and public transport users asking for a strict crackdown on cartels inflating commodity prices.
"Kenyans queue for fuel while billions vanish in procurement scandals. GCK stands for transparent, accountable governance where public resources serve the people, not cartels," he said.
Alila said that GCK is not are not a party of blind supporters but one that is made up of responsible partners in Kenya's development who are ready to praise what deserves praise and challenge what must be challenged.
