The Eliud Owalo Foundation has moved to support Gor Mahia FC in a move aimed to enhance efficiency as the team prepares for their weekend action against Tusker FC in the FKF Premier League set to be played on Saturday 22 October, 2025.
Gor Mahia Patron Eliud Owalo, who is also Deputy Chief of Staff in charge of Delivery and Government Efficiency in the Executive Office of the President met with the Gor Mahia players and former Gor Mahia legends over lunch where he presented the team with incentives ahead of the match.
Earlier, Owalo met with the Gor Mahia Legends welfare association led by chairman Austin Oduor and presented the legends with 60 sets of track suits.
Gor Mahia is preparing for the crunch Mashemeji derby where the team is going head to head with AFC Leopards SC set to be played on 30 Nov 2025. According to Owalo, the Eliud Owalo foundation has made arrangements for the legends to travel to Nairobi and watch the Mashemeji derby.
“The Gor Mahia legends brought glory to this club. They played with dedication and they won many premier lesgue titles. The went on to win the East and Central Africa championships as well as the Mandela Cup in 1987 despite not having an environment that the current players have today,” Owalo said.
“These legends still have a lot to offer in terms of motivation, inspiration and even technical support and that is why we are bringing them into the team so that they can help our current players reach even greater achievements,” Owalo added.
Owalo, who assumed the Gor Mahia patron position in November 2025, following the demise of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga seeks to bring a modern governance mindset, commitment to professional structures, and a long-time personal loyalty to Gor Mahia.
In April 2025, Owalo was unveiled as Deputy Patron of the club. At that unveiling, he committed to integrity, transparency, and proper governance. Owalo has called for a radical shift in how organisations manage human capital, urging leaders to embrace long-term strategic goals and harness the potential of Generation Z to drive productivity and sustainability.
Owalo said that serious plans are underway to have Gor Mahia nurture and grow their own players rather than rely on buying players exorbitantly as has been the practice. According to Owalo, the Club will align itself with global best practices as practiced by World class teams
