Gen Z activist Shakira Wafula has resigned from the former Chief Justice David Maraga’s 2027 presidential campaign team of the United Green Movement (UGM) party.
Shakira Wafula who was Maraga’s 2027 presidential campaign team Secretary of the Political Committee tendered her resignation, signalling a significant shift within the campaign’s internal structure.
In a public statement issued on November 17, 2025, Wafula expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve, while outlining the ideological and ethical considerations that informed her departure.
Wafula noted that her role within Maraga’s campaign’s political committee offered her valuable insight into the inner workings of Kenya’s political landscape.
She highlighted the importance of integrity, accountability, and good governance principles that she believes must guide any effort aimed at reshaping the country’s future. According to her statement, her decision to resign came after “careful reflection,” driven by concerns over alignment on “foundational values and priorities.”
The Maraga Campaign has been running on the slogan “Reset, Restore, and Rebuild.” However, Wafula suggested that living up to these ideals demands a deeper adherence to transparency, ethical leadership, and a shared commitment to principled governance.
She implied that differences in these areas had created an irreconcilable divide between her and the current direction of the campaign.
“Truly achieving these ideals requires deeper alignment on foundational values,” Wafula stated, expressing hope that her departure will prompt meaningful introspection within the campaign. She emphasised that Kenya’s political leadership must be built on consistency and integrity—not just slogans.
Despite stepping down, Wafula extended goodwill to her former colleagues, wishing them success as the campaign pushes forward.
She urged them to remain guided by collaboration, ethical leadership, and service to the Kenyan people. Shakira Wafula is among the youthful activists championing for better governance and calling for an end to human rights violations.
