Hussein and Kilimo held productive talks focusing on key areas that will enhance sports development in Kenya
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Hussein Mohammed today March 2nd, 2026 held discussions with the newly appointed Director-General of Sports Kenya, Timothy Kilimo and his team as the federation continues with plans to enhance football infrustructure. Ahead of the 2027 AFCON, Hussein and Kilimo held productive talks focusing on key areas that will enhance sports development in Kenya, focusing on sports infrastructure and ensuring football facilities that meet the highest standards required by partners like Azam TV Kenya for production, as well as capacity building programmes for maintenance of these facilities. The Kenya Pamoja AFCON 2027 Local Organising Committee together with experts from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and Football Kenya Federation (FKF) officials recently concluded the safety, security and infrastructure inspections at Kasarani Main Stadium, the Kasarani Annexes, Utalii Grounds and Kenya Academy of Sports training sites. The next phase of inspection is scheduled in three months as preparations for hosting Pamoja AFCON 2027 continue in collaboration with CAF and key stakeholders. Last week, Hussein held fruitful deliberations with senior officials from the Kenya Defence Forces, including Colonel Ibrahim Boru, Lt Colonel Albert Lagat, Lt Colonel Vincent Ombaba, Major Edwin Muta, and Captain Gerald Muriungi, at the Ulinzi Sports Complex. Discussions were focused on identifying alternative venues to ensure uninterrupted league operations as Kasarani and Nyayo stadiums undergo preparations for AFCON 2027, while also exploring infrastructure development initiatives to address the current shortfall. Collaborative efforts with the KDF will be strengthened through the federation's infrastructure upgrading programs to deliver long-term solutions that drive Kenyan football forward.
