A suspect who has been on the radar by authorities for several weeks was finally arraigned at the Kibera Law Courts, facing serious charges related to theft and property damage in Nairobi's Karen area.
The accused, identified as Mary Waithera Gigonyo, was presented before the Kibera Law Courts Chief Magistrate faced with charges of theft and malicious damage of property following her arrest after being on the run for a sustained period.
Waithera faces charges stemming from an incident involving the alleged stealing and malicious damage of property belonging to Mr. Eric Munene, a resident of the affluent Karen neighbourhood.
According to Police records, the estimated value of the stolen and damaged property is estimated into millions of shillings following the incident that took place earlier in March this year.
During the brief court session, the prosecution objected to her bail application informing the court that the suspect has been evading justice until her recent arrest by officers attached to Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Nairobi.
During the incident, the court heard that Mary Waithera Gikonyo raided the Karen residence in the company of hired goons and destroyed property including the house and the perimeter fence before stealing assorted goods valued at millions from the house.
