Former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) deputy president Doris Petra has reclaimed her Council for East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) Executive Committee member slot during the just concluded CECAFA elective general assembly in Djibouti.
Petra, who has been serving in the CECAFA executive committee since 2017 won another term marking the begining of her third term at the CECAFA regional football governing body.
In a post on her social media pages, Petra thanked the FKF President Hussein Mohammed who she said had supported her campaigns to secure her re election.
"I am deeply humbled by your support during the just concluded CECAFA elective general assembly in Djibouti. Your support made me secure another term as CECAFA Executive member. This means a lot to me and goes along way to prove that truly football unites, may the football spirit live with us all. Thank you so much for rising up to the bigger picture," Petra said.
Hussein, who beat Petra to the FKF top seat at the 2024 elections supported Petra in her CECAFA campaings by lobbying for her re-election among the East African countries.
Petra's initial involvement in football stemmed from her longstanding engagement in Kenyan sports administration, with professional records indicating her entry into federation leadership as vice president around August 1999.
She served as a member in the FKF as the NEC member for Rift Valley region before her elevationto the deputy president's position following the FKF 2016 elections when she ran alongside Nick Mwendwa.
Her early entry into football likely leveraged connections through government sports bodies, including her later appointment as Director on the Sports Board under the Ministry of Youth and Sports in June 2014, providing a foundation amid the federation's operational challenges.
Her role gained further prominence with the 2016 FKF elections, in which Nick Mwendwa's "Team Change" ticket secured the presidency following years of governance instability including prior leadership disputes and regulatory scrutiny from FIFA.
As deputy president, her position highlighted administrative expertise, assuming oversight of day-to-day federation operations during a period marked by internal conflicts and efforts to stabilize Kenyan football structures.
As deputy, Petra managed logistical and executive functions through escalating crises, such as temporary leadership handovers in 2021 when Mwendwa delegated duties amid legal battles, demonstrating resilience in handling federation affairs without direct reliance on political favoritism. Her progression reflected a focus on practical governance amid Kenya's football sector volatility, positioning her as a key figure in operational continuity.
