The SportPesa League fixture between the Football Kenya Federation Mozzartbet Cup champions Nairobi United and record 21 times winners Gor Mahia has been abandoned, following incidents of crowd trouble at Dandora Stadium on Sunday, December 21st, 2025 in Nairobi. Players from both teams were led away to the dressing rooms shortly after fracas ensued in one of two Nairobi United fan sections at the facility. No official word has been given by the match officials in regards to play resuming, but Gor Mahia posted on their Facebook page saying the fixture had been abandoned. According to match officials, objects were thrown onto the pitch, creating an unsafe environment for players and match officials. Despite efforts by security personnel to restore order, the center referee made the decision to abandon the fixture in consultation with security officers. The match looked to being going all smoothly till the 58th minute, when violent scenes broke out at the orange-colored stands in the stadium, located between Gates 2 and 3. From the opposite end of the ground, footage showed individuals draped in Gor Mahia shirts forcing out fans who had occupied the Nairobi United fan section, causing an ugly commotion that captured the attention of the players and match referee Brooke Phillip. The crowd trouble began just moments after hosts Nairobi United had equalized to make the scores 1-1. Gor Mahia, who were seeking to go top with a win, had led for much of the game through Ebenezer Adukwaw's strike in the 14th minute, before Ovella Ochieng arrowed in a leveler three minutes to the hour mark. Both sets of players delayed on kicking off with the game after the Ovella goal, and were ushered to the side of the pitch as teargas was hurled in the affected stands. The incident is expected to be reviewed by the FKF Leagues and Competitions Committee, which will determine the fate of the match and possible sanctions. The abandonment overshadowed what had been an evenly contested encounter. Away from Nairobi, Tusker FC returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over APS Bomet at Kericho Green Stadium. The brewers, who were looking to bounce back from their previous defeat, showed resilience against a disciplined APS Bomet side. Dennis Oguta proved to be the difference-maker, scoring the decisive goal to hand Tusker maximum points on the road. APS Bomet pressed for an equaliser in the closing stages but were unable to break down Tusker’s organised defence, as the visitors held firm to secure a crucial win in their title push. At the Coast, Bandari FC finally ended their five-match winless run with a narrow 1-0 victory over Mathare United in a tense encounter played at Mbaraki Sports Ground in Mombasa. The decisive goal was scored by Amza Ndayou who stepped up and calmly sent Mathare goalkeeper Kevin Ouru the wrong way to give the hosts the lead. Bandari head coach Razak Siwa welcomed the win, describing it as a timely boost for his side. “We hadn’t won in a long time. The players showed character and worked very hard for this result,” Siwa said. Mathare United coach John Kamau was left frustrated by his team’s missed chances. “It’s disappointing. We played well for long spells, but conceding a soft penalty and failing to take our chances cost us the match,” Kamau noted.
