BioTank Africa Hosts Kenya’s Largest Fundi Forum in Kitengela on 28th August
BioTank Africa will host the third edition of its Fundi Forum on 28 August 2026 in Kitengela town, bringing together 400 fundis, contractors and
plumbers in what is set to be the largest gathering yet since the initiative launched in 2023.
This year's Forum also marks a shift in format: it is the first county-based edition of the Fundi Forum, and going forward, the event will rotate across different towns rather than anchoring to a single location. Kitengela was selected for this edition both for its fast-growing construction and real estate activity and for its central, convenient reach across the counties being targeted.
The event lands at a milestone moment for the company. It follows the April 2026 launch of BioTank's customer-first 'Kuwa Mbele Jenga Easy' campaign, and coincides with BioTank Africa marking eight years in the Kenyan market and opening its Nakuru branch. The company is also preparing to roll out a distributor model across towns in the coming months.
The scale of the opportunity is significant. According to the Water Services Regulatory Board's latest Impact Report, only about 9 percent of Kenya's population — roughly 5 million of 54 million people — is connected to a municipal sewer network, and many counties have no urban sewer coverage at all. That leaves onsite sanitation, including biodigesters and septic systems, as the primary wastewater solution for most homes, schools, hospitals and commercial buildings nationwide making correct installation, the Forum's core focus, central to public health outcomes.
"Our fundis are our biggest ambassadors," said Edwin Kirugo, General Manager at BioTank Africa. "They are the ones on the ground, on rooftops and in trenches, making sure every installation meets standard. This being our third and largest Forum yet, and the first we're taking county by county, is proof of how far this network has grown and how much further it can go."
The initiative directly addresses a critical skills gap in the sector, where National Construction Authority (NCA) data shows that only about 30% of construction artisans possess formal technical training. As biodigester technology is a relatively new innovation, targeted upskilling ensures fundis master proper installation standards, effectively support property owners, expand their own enterprises, and actively advance national public health and sanitation goals.
"With over 90 percent of the country relying on onsite sanitation, the fundis we train today are shaping public health outcomes for years to come," Kirugo added. "Taking the Forum county by county means we reach them where the work is actually happening."
The Forum will feature hands-on installation demonstrations, a business clinic for artisans looking to formalise or expand their operations, and a showcase of BioTank Africa's latest product lines.
