Bamburi Cement Plc today launched a solar-powered borehole that will pump clean water to households, livestock and small gardens with no fuel or electricity costs, hence benefiting the Vipingo community.

Additionally, they also handed over two newly constructed classrooms at Bureni to the Vipingo community, deepening a long-standing partnership built on the community’s own priorities.

The projects were commissioned by Bamburi Cement Plc Chief Executive Officer, Mr Geoffrey Ndugwa, in the presence of Kilifi South MP Hon. Ken Chonga, the Member of County Assembly, the Assistant County Commissioner, a representative of the Ministry of Education, the Area Chief, village elders, and members of Bamburi’s Executive Committee.

Speaking at the handover, Mr Ndugwa stated, “When the community decided to expand Bureni school to include Grade 6, it again reached out to Bamburi. Last year, we constructed the Grade 6 classroom and donated a water tank. This year, we constructed two more classrooms for Grade 7 and Grade 8, equipped with lockers and seats to give learners a comfortable and conducive learning environment.”

The borehole and classrooms add to a range of projects Bamburi has delivered with the Vipingo community since 2023, including: education sponsorship for 16 students, two free medical camps, a sanitation and hygiene programme, grading of community access roads and ongoing donations of firewood and murram.

All projects are identified in consultation with local leaders and residents, reflecting Bamburi’s commitment to collaborate with host communities towards supporting them with sustainable solutions.
