Alex Mwangi Claims Maiden KAGC Victory at NCBA Diani Beach Masters
Alex Mwangi claimed his maiden Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) Series victory after holding off a strong field to win the NCBA Diani Beach Masters at Diamond Leisure Beach & Golf Resort over the weekend.
The Windsor Golf Hotel & Country Club player closed the three-day championship on 2-over-par 218, carding rounds of 76, 71 and 71 to finish three shots ahead of Eugene Wafula, who placed second on 5-over-par 221.
Mwangi’s victory came a week after he finished runner-up to Josphat Rono at the NCBA Malindi Open ‘Vasco da Gama Cup’, where he carded 10-over-par 220. Rono went on to claim his maiden KAGC victory with 217.
This time, Mwangi maintained his composure after an opening 76, responding with two successive rounds of 71 to move clear of the chasing pack and secure the title.
“I am very happy to have won. After finishing second in Malindi, I came to Diani determined to put together a better performance, and I managed to stay consistent over the three rounds. The two 71s gave me a good position going into the final day, and I am delighted to get my first KAGC win,” said Mwangi.
Wafula finished second after rounds of 73, 72 and 76, while Karen Country Club’s Kellie Gachaga and Windsor youngster Kanana Muthomi shared third place on 7-over-par 223.
Elvis Muigua, Kamoza Longwe and Dickson Barasa tied for fifth on 11-over-par 227 as the coastal championship produced another competitive field following last weekend’s Malindi Open.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Dickson Masha, Branch Manager, NCBA Diani Branch, congratulated the players and highlighted the bank’s continued commitment to supporting golfers as they pursue their ambitions.

Our continued support for golf reflects this belief, and we are pleased to play a part in the development of the game and the golfers who continue to compete at this level,” said Masha.
The NCBA Diani Beach Masters formed part of the 2026 KAGC Series, bringing together leading amateur golfers competing for championship honours and ranking points. The event also continued NCBA’s support of amateur golf in partnership with the Kenya Golf Union, providing competitive opportunities for golfers as they develop their game.
Meanwhile, junior golfers were also in action as the U.S. Kids Golf Local Tour continued its programme at Migaa Golf Club in Kiambu, with players competing across various age categories.
In the 16–18 years categories, Shani D'Souza carded 16-over-par to win the girls’ title ahead of Pearl Wanzau, who finished on 46-over-par. Tsorav Soni won the boys’ category on 4-over-par, beating Wahome Mutahi, who finished on 6-over-par.
In the 13–14 years category, Shuhan Peng emerged as the boys’ champion with a score of 3-over-par, finishing ahead of Joven Reel on 11-over-par. In the girls’ category, Ashley Gachora carded 11-over-par to edge Shani Karimi by one shot.
Among the 11–12-year-olds, Ishaan Patel topped the boys’ category on 6-over-par, while Leticia Mwangale led the girls’ category with a score of 3-over-par.
