Absalom “Matakwey” Onyango Leads Korogocho MCA Race in Latest Intouch Poll

Korogocho Ward MCA Absalom Odhiambo Onyango, popularly known as “Matakwey” or “Mobimba,” is leading the field in the latest Intouch Polls survey conducted in Korogocho Ward.

According to the research, Matakwey received 42 per cent of respondents' support, followed by George Ouma at 21 per cent, Kevin Illa at 13 per cent, Moses Ochieng at 9 per cent, and Alice Luta at 7 per cent. Other candidates collectively accounted for 8 per cent.

The research was conducted between 8 and 9 August 2026 and involved a sample of 2,000 registered voters in Korogocho Ward. The sample included respondents across genders and age groups, with the research conducted via telephone interviews.

The Korogocho survey formed part of a broader research exercise that also collected other findings on voter attitudes and political preferences in the ward.

Matakwey Leads the Field

The poll places Matakwey 21 percentage points ahead of his closest challenger, George Ouma.

The incumbent MCA has maintained a high-profile presence in Korogocho politics since being elected on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) ticket. He has also been associated with various community initiatives, including youth football activities and support programmes targeting school-going children.

His political profile has extended beyond ward-level issues, with Matakwey frequently speaking on Nairobi politics, county administration and the distribution of resources to local communities.

His Position Within ODM Politics

Politically, Matakwey is currently a strong supporter of the Broad-Based Government arrangement, operating within the ODM political framework.

He has also publicly aligned himself with senior ODM figures, including Oburu Oginga and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, as part of his broader political positioning within the party.

His views on Nairobi politics have also attracted attention, including his advocacy for the city to be recognised as an ODM stronghold.
